One of the most impressive aspects of the Lexus brand is the quick spread of popularity and how it rose to become one of the best luxury brands on the market.
History of Lexus
The Lexus brand is a luxury division of the Japanese Toyota brand that came to be because of the missing market of an affordable luxury sedan. With origins in 1983, the automaker originally started as premium sedan created under the Toyota brand that went under the code name F1. After an in-depth look at the market, the company realized they needed to create a separate brand to represent their new luxury sedan. After the F1 project was completed in 1989, which the new Lexus brand had dubbed the Lexus LS 400.
In the 90’s the Lexus brand began to expand with even more models and body styles. In 1991, the automaker launched the SC 400, their first sports coupe model. Shortly after they launched the Lexus ES 300 Sedan. As more models were being debuted, the Lexus brand also began to make a major imprint on the auto industry, even being one of the first brand to begin the certified pre-owned Lexus model. Fast-forward to the present and Lexus is now available in 70 countries and territories, making it one of the most sought-after luxury brands in the world.
History of Lexus Models
The Lexus brand has a staying power that is hard to find in the auto industry with most vehicles staying in production. One model that was discontinued was the Lexus LF-A, which debuted in 2010 and was ultimately discontinued in 2013. Another vehicle that was discontinued was the 2006 debut year of the Lexus SC. This two-door convertible was discontinued in 2010. The brand has plenty of vehicles that have lasted on their lineup, including the vehicle that started it all, the Lexus LS. The company continues to keep making waves in recent years with the introduction of new vehicles onto their lineup, including the refreshed Lexus IS, a compact sedan introduced in 2016 that is currently still in production.
